Context
The aim of SOTU project Cameroon is to advocate and monitor the implementation of African Union treaties and decisions, most specifically the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG) ratified by Cameroon in 2012 and the African YouthCharter (AYC) ratified in 2010. This project will be implemented throughout the Cameroon territory. The initiative has three major results: 1/ Cameroonian citizens are informed and empowered to act to claim their rights and freedoms; 2/ The African Union and Cameroon government act to ratify, popularize, and monitor implementation of AYC and ACEDEG; 3/ Inclusive national Platforms are capacitated to popularize, engage and hold Governments accountable.
To achieve these results, the project intends to mobilize various stakeholders including journalists. This is to promote the good use of AU mechanisms in their missions and facilitate the putting a place of a journalist network “My African Union”. Moreover, the project provides awards for journalists promoting in an innovative manner the mechanisms of the AU.
