Bamenda Declaration
Meeting in the Conference hall of Central Ideal Park Bamenda from 7th of May to 8th of May 2010 for the training of Independent Electoral Monitors, under the auspices of Democracy Caravan II with its pilot projects “Citizens Independent Electoral Commission (CECI),
– Aware of thirst for transparent, credible fair and free elections in Cameroon and the lack of direct implication of citizens in electoral process in Cameroon,
– Considering the continuous strive by the civil Society Platform for democracy (the Platform) for democratic development capacity building and training of Independent Elections Monitors in Bafoussam, Yaoundé, Douala and Buea, the training sessions of Bamenda being the fifth.
– Mindful of the objectives of this CECI operation 50.000 Independent Electoral observers, the participants present during this two days seminar-workshop revolve as follows:
– That our sincere gratitude goes to the august guest during the opening session in the person of Dr. FONKAM – AZU, National Chairperson of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), whose discuss painted perfect relationship between CECI and ELECAM while spurring trainees towards their ingenuity in dissemination of the knowledge they are giving.
– Appreciate the sense of understanding manifested by the administrative authorities of Bamenda II who finally authorised the holding of the training workshop.
– Emphasis that the training of Independent Electoral Monitors was successful with expertise knowledge on CECI agents engaging themselves to be impartial through electoral process in Cameroon. Participants impregnated with skills and techniques of election monitoring demonstrated the visionary leadership to bring to nearest person the acquired knowledge. The participants in an organised manner and in a democratic manner elected the regional representation of CECI whose mission is to spread the structure into all divisions, subdivisions, villages, quarters and in all neighbourhood comparing the North West Region with the shortest time possible.
– While encouraging Civil Society Platform through CECI program to double efforts to conclude further trainings and sensitisation of citizens f or credible transparent electoral process in Cameroon, participants were determined more than ever to use acquired knowledge for collective interest of all electoral stakeholders and bound by principles of impartiality.
