Nouveaux Droits de l’Homme Cameroun

A BRIEF RESUME OF A POLITICAL DEBATE CONDUCTED AT FRIEDRICH EBERT CENTRE IN YAOUNDE-CAMEROON DATED FRIDAY 8 SEPTEMBER 2017.

AS earlier underlined, Friday 8 september2017 at Friedrich Ebert Centre in Bastos-Yaounde, witnessed a high level political debate under the theme CAMEROON AND INTERNATIONAL NON-GOVERNMENTAL- ORGANISATIONS: AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CRISIS GROUP. The debate which took place in the presence of the coordinator of the said centre drew the attention of students from a number of high institutions of learning, representatives of political parties as well as national non-governmental-organisations. NDH-Cameroun answered present and was highly represented by two members; Madam Murielle Mbakop and the trainee, my humble self Njukang Rostan.

The first speaker of the panel in the person of Mr Georges Boyomo, the publishing director of “mutations” doubling as the president of the Cameroon Journalist political club started with Amnesty International reiterating that in its reports, it condems flagrant and systematic violation of human rights in the North of Cameroon by administrative authorities and the forces of law and order within the framework of the battle against the terrorist sect Boko Haram.As per International Crisis Group, Mr Boyomo said that in its last report published in August 2017,International Crisis Group hammered on the Anglophone crisis,proposed certain solutions to the crisis such as; there structurisation of the National Bilingualism and Multiculturalism Commission, recognition of the problem etc. In addition, he evoked the state of affairs between Cameroon and the Confederation of African Football

According to Dr. Efouba Nga, a political scientist in the University of Yaoundé II who participated as a member of the panel, they are many loopholes of the regime in power and transition is one and the only solution.

On her part, madam Ngo Mbe, the executive director of the RESEAU DES DEFENSEURS DES DROITS HUMAINS EN AFRIQUE CENTRALE(REDHAC) commenced by analysing the response of the Cameroon government to the reports of the aforementioned non- governmental organisation and the image of the country, the aftermath  of these reports at the national and international scenes. Madam NGO Mbe made mentioned that the response of the government to the reports is interpreted by regional and international institutions of human rights as the absence of the rule of law, confusion between the executive, legislative and the judiciary powers and above all disorder. She ended by saying that this affects the relation between Cameroon and diaspora negatively. The participants then asked a series of questions and the exercise terminated at about 6:OO pm with entertainment. Thanks for your kind attention
